Day Six - Lisbon, Portugal - Visiting Sintra - May 14, 2025

Jeep Ride to Sintra

Last evening at the supper table, we discussed possible tours to Sintra.  We saw this one on the Viator app that we really liked and that allowed us to sleep in a bit because it started at 10:30 a.m.  Jessica and Matt were going to stay behind and go visit museums and Ben had a 10 am appointment at the hotel spa.

Turns out Joe had a really rough night and possibly had food poisoning (or that is how it presented).  We couldn't really track it down to what might have caused it, but he stayed in all day.

Dave, McKenzie, Kennedy and I did the day trip.  We were in a pretty small jeep and in the beginning we were stopping about every two minutes to take photos and learn the history.  Our guide was fantastic.  He reminded me of Dominico who was our driver/guide in Italy.  Just very knowledgeable and  very kind.

Stop for some Gelato at Cabo da Roca

Caba da Roca was once called "the end of the world."  Is is the westernmost point of continental Europe.

We had to cut the last stop out of the tour to get back to the hotel because we had a Hunter Douglas dinner that night.  The tour we took was called Private Half-Day Tour by Classic Car or Electric Jeep in Sintra.  The guides names (see in Reviews) are Diogo and Manuel.  We had Manuel.  Like I said before he was fantastic.

Dave and I had about 15 minutes to get upstairs, change, and head back downstairs to catch the bus to dinner.  Our Group dinner event was at SUD Hall.  Perched along the edge of the Tagus River, SUD Lisboa Hall is more than a venue - it's an experience that captures the soul of Lisbon in every detail.

We sat with some Hunter Douglas dealers that we know who live in Lincoln, Nebraska and have a son that attends college in Grand Junction.  And we met new friends.  We also sat with the gentleman in charge of Hunter Douglas contract.  We had met him in Sweden last year.  It was a great evening.  Now to bed because tomorrow is another full day.

The menu

Chicken, mashed potatoes and vegetables

Seems like it could be a good wedding venue

The kids (minus Joe) went to a Fado house.  We were told if we wanted the full Portuguese experience, we should go to a Fado house.  I'll have to ask them how it went.
