Day One - Travel Day May 9, 2025

 We in Grand Junction woke up at the early hour of 4:00 a.m.  (Ben, Dave, me).  We took an early flight with a long layover.  That way if for any reason we missed the flight, we could still drive to Denver.  Tomorrow will be when the fun posts arrive.

Day Six - Lisbon, Portugal - Visiting Sintra - May 14, 2025

  Jeep Ride to Sintra Last evening at the supper table, we discussed possible tours to Sintra.  We saw this one on the Viator app that we really liked and that allowed us to sleep in a bit because it started at 10:30 a.m.  Jessica and Matt were going to stay behind and go visit museums and Ben had a 10 am appointment at the hotel spa.   Turns out Joe had a really rough night and possibly had food poisoning (or that is how it presented).  We couldn't really track it down to what might have caused it, but he stayed in all day. Dave, McKenzie, Kennedy and I did the day trip.  We were in a pretty small jeep and in the beginning we were stopping about every two minutes to take photos and learn the history.  Our guide was fantastic.  He reminded me of Dominico who was our driver/guide in Italy.  Just very knowledgeable and  very kind. Day 8 - Lisbon, Portugal - Trying to get home - Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17

  When we arrived in Lisbon, it is by far the longest customs line we had ever encountered.  We weren't quite sure what to expect leaving Lisbon, so we got an early taxi and got ourselves to the airport.  It went VERY smoothly checking in.  There was a big open area where we could get some food and coffee.  Dave and Ben got McDonalds.  Ben wanted McDonalds lunch.  Joe, McKenzie and I got coffee and our last Portuguese pastry.  We also got a breakfast sandwich.   When you got to the gate, they would let you through this gate by group number.  Dave, Ben, and I were group 1 so we got through the gate and before you knew it we were on the plane. Here's where it gets tricky.  We were flying in to Newark.  For posterity sake, it is May 2025 and Newark is down to one runway for takeoffs because of construction.  They also are having difficulty with Air Traffic Controllers as some have take 'mental leave" because of a bad acc...

Day Seven - Lisbon, Portugal; Cork and Wine Tour - May 15, 2025

FUN FACT:  Portugal is the world's leading producer of cork. The country is responsible for over 60% of the world's cork exports and holds a quarter of the world's cork oak area. A major producer in the Alentejo region, Portugal is known for its sustainable cork harvesting practices. The Portuguese company Corticeira Amorim is the world's largest producer and distributor of cork. Why does Portugal make so much cork?   The Cork Oak (Quercus suber), the tree that provides this resource, found its home in Portugal and today is spread across the south of the country creating the largest cork oak area in the world.
