Lisbon, Portugal - Tuesday, May 13, 2025

We have learned while traveling together as a family to build in one or two days where we call it a "free" day.  We do not have something planned with all of us going somewhere together.  It allows those who need alone time to be alone; those who would like spa time to have spa time; etc.

Dave and I had a Hunter Douglas business meeting at 9:00 a.m.  Last year in Sweden, the meeting was a whole lot of apology and we know we need to do better (on Hunter Douglas's behalf).  This year Hunter Douglas was showing us a clear vision of where we are going as a company.  We thought it was a great meeting.

Welcome to the meeting.

Joe, McKenzie and Kennedy walked to the center of town to check out the flea market and many shops.  They also visited the Tile Museum.  Matt worked on homework.  Ben rested in the morning.  After our Hunter Douglas meeting, Dave and I got on a tour bus that took us downtown and took part in a walking tour of the downtown area.  We stayed downtown afterwards and asked Jessica if she'd like to come meet us.

Down the stairs to the subway station - 1 stop to our hotel

The tile work on the streets was amazing

I think I was trying to get the purple blooming trees

You could climb the stairs to the top and have a great lookout.  (We did not)

Named after my sister, LISA.

Jess met us and we ate at the Beer Garden.  Food was okay.  Not the best service.  The inside of the restaurant was ornate and beautiful. (Didn't get any photos though.)

Notice the upside down beer bottle in the glass

Showing walkways and how green it was

Jessica knows me well and made sure we stopped at a shop that sold mental health shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies.   I bought one that says The World is a Better Place with You in It and another one that says So many years of education and nobody taught us how to love ourselves."  The absolute greatest thing about this purchase is that with each purchase you get a free therapy session.  When I told him I go to a therapist, he quickly asked, "Are you okay?"  I said, I am okay.  He then told me I could gift the session to a friend and/or they had a list of people that wanted a therapy session.  I thought this whole concept was fantastic and like I said, Jessica had seen this earlier in the trip and wanted to make sure she showed me.

We walked back to our hotel.  One year ago in Italy my hip was in so much pain, it hurt to walk.  But this time we walked the hilly streets of Lisbon back to our hotel and I made it!

That evening we caught up with everyone as we ate at the hotel restaurant.

Shrimp Fettucine

One dessert for the table! - McKenzie's mom taught me that.
She does it with breakfast and pancakes.  One pancake to "share."
